Apple’s Second Generation iPod Touch has a speed of 532MHz, which the company boosted of. It is to notice that the first generation iPod Touch and the iPhone had a speed of 412MHz and it is not at all surprising that some of the latest applications and especially some of the games run much better on the second generation iPod Touch with the faster processor.

Software developers are working on the software to compensate for the speed difference so that the device doesn’t matter for their software to run on it. This update in the processor speed might be a factor of upgrading the product but the slower processor could be more of a battery life factor on the iPhone. The second generation iPod gives the best experience and performance right now. For playing any of the latest games, the first generation iPod Touch is not advisable to be considered.

A new Apple iPod Touch with the features of second generation is an upcoming model for most of us. It is because $229 can give some additive features in the same model that earlier cost you $299. The best part is this iPod is too thin than the previous.

It has a new speaker and new software that helps you check your mails and use other applications previously limited to the iPhone. The new iPod Touch has a rocker volume button on the left side and speakers on the bottom. Above all the users can also download third party applications from iTunes that will turn a Web-connected Touch into a Skype phone.

US experts believe that hearing loss in children will increase because of the increase in the use of personal listening devices. That is why the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has launched a campaign to educate parents and children how to safely listen to iPods ad other MP3 players.

The damage according to them is based on two primary factors, too much of usage of an iPod with the volume too loud and for too long. The association wants to spread the message among children, adolescent, teens and parents about the demerits of such personal devices.

A Pod Killer! 11/17/2008

If we don’t have that bad a memory, we might still remember Dell’s promise to the music player market sometime back. Dell was supposedly preparing a new product that was designed to succeed to the ill-fated Digital Jukebox that was scrapped in 2006. Back then, the Wall Street Journal said the sub-$100 music player would hit stores in September, just in time for the Christmas shopping season. It was described to feature built-in Wi-Fi that would connect to a Dell music subscription service. Michael Dell himself promoted the device, saying a new Dell music player would "generate lust" and serve as the backbone of Dell's marketing efforts.

However, "a person familiar with the matter" has reported that the plans to launch an iPod killer have been put on hold indefinitely. Instead, the company now plans on adding new features to its Zing application.

Fission, which is an audio editor designed to do editing in minutes has been updated to 1.6 version with an exceptionally new feature: built-in iPhone ringtone saving. Apart from making applications for simple edits to audio files, it is now into converting MP3, AAC,AIFF, Apple lossless, or WAV files into iPhone ringtones in one-step process. A file once saved as a ringtone will then be automatically passed into iTunes for syncing to the iPhones.

This Fission method will prove to be faster and simpler for simple edition to an audio file rather than following the old fashioned method of GarageBand which included a tedious and a long method of where one has to spend for the tune as well as for turning it into a ringtone. A demo is available of Fission 1.6. It allows free up gradation for its registered owners and $32 for new users.

Steve Jobs is back with his analysis for the second time this year. This time his full attention is towards the iPod. He is also going to study the once upon a time Apple’s main growth driver MP3 player. This time he is using the new revenue systems for judgments.

However with what he told us look like its time to bid farewell to iPod. On calculating the revenue numbers it was calculated that Apple’s iPod is not giving revenue as expected. The iPod’s contribution to Apple’s quarterly sales has shrunk from 55.6% in 2006 to 14.2% last quarter. Wow! That was a big jump.

iPod has given Apple a place in the market otherwise after the years of losses because of Microsoft left Apple with little brand image. The iPod not only turned Apple’s finances but it gave the company a new name. In the first quarter of the year 2006 the sales of iPod grew upto 55.6 percent. Then came the iPhone which became an instant hit. However it did not cover the whole phone market yet it sold millions.

All these changes started after the launch of iPod. However looks like with the size the iPod’s importance has also started shrinking. May be because the iPod market got saturate. This will result to shrink in revenue. With rigorous growth in Apple’s revenue the company is not paying much heed to its bread and butter.  However it is hard to deny that the iPod has been dethroned by its fans and replaced by the iPhone.
